Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day: A time for people special to us to come in and see what we do in our class. We enjoyed making heart baskets and sharing our work with them. (Sorry the pictures are upside down!!)

The value of the week is ENTHUSIASM! Which means cheering people on, being 'dead keen' and being excited to do something. We also thought it meant to do things with a smile on your face, even if it is not what you feel like doing.
Room 7 is always enthusiastic about music with Mrs Hampton every Wednesday afternoon. Today we learnt Jingle Bells on the the marimba, keyboard and glockenspiel's.
At what other times can we show enthusiasm???

We have noticed that our Brassica plants have really shot up in the last few weeks! We still are not really sure what type of plants they are, but we hope they will grow some type of vegetable soon! Before you say we need to do some weeding, the little plants around them are mustard plants!
In class we have been talking about sustainability. Why do you think growing our own vegetables would be a sustainable way of living??

Lets write together!
Since we have been learning all about narrative stories, I thought we could write a fun narrative together here on our class blog. I will start off with a story starter, then you can carry it on by adding a sentence or two.
Things to think about:
- Does your sentence make sense?
- Have you included description and detail?
- Have you checked that the spelling and punctuation is all correct?
Don't forget to come back and have a read again one day soon; who knows what twists the story will take!
So lets get started!
The fire had completely burnt out during the night. It was so cold that I woke up shivering and sniffling. I could hear Dad's loud snoring, so I knew he was still sleeping soundly."I'll get the wood for Mum" I thought, and I slipped on my shoes to go outside. I barely had the door open when I saw her looking right at me. . . .

Last night was the Matamata District Digi Awards at the Intermediate in town! It was a great night and we saw all the finalist enteries from all the other schools. Hinuera School was well represented with quite a handful of our classmates making the finals! In our eyes, Ava was the star of the night and won the award for Best Photo Story in the Year 4-6 category! Well done to Ava, and to the others that got involved! No doubt we are all looking forward to next years Digi Awards now that we all
know what to expect :)

Check out the bubbles we made in Kahikatea 7! They were lots of fun as we were able to make such big bubbles using our hands! Don't forget to read the descriptive sentences below :)
They were shimmering as they danced in the sky- Caitlyn
The mixture swirled and twirled around my fingers. I took my
hands out and blew softly. The bubble looked like a dancing rainbow- Ava
The bubbles hovered above the trees and were gliding over
the grass –Le Roy
I blew very gently and then the bubble squeezed out. It
slowly drifted away until ‘pop!’ it disappeared like it was never there-
Marlene
A gentle breeze sweeps the bubbles away as softly as a
caring hand- William
The bubble mysteriously disappeared like it was never there-
Mikayla
I produced a bubble, silvery as my granny’s hair, shiny as
fish scales, colourful like a rainbow, wet like a frog and as big as Jupiter -
Jessica
They vanished into the air like they were a ghost- Khan
The bubbles were like microscopic rainbows. I touched one
and it felt oily, slick, light and greasy, then it went pop! –Samual
Jadon blew the biggest bubble you can ever imagine. It’s
like there is an imaginary bubble machine- Leo

Earlier in the week, we were talking about the things that make our class a neat and special place to learn. Gemma said that K7 is special because we
can have fun in our class and it is easy to work with each other. Someone agreed with that and added that it is because we
all co-operate with one another and treat each other with respect. We also decided that it is because we often think about our class treaty and the rules that help make our class work well. Jadon then said we
know all the routines and they are effective to help our class run each day.
Why do you think it is important for us to continue to build on these things? What other things can we do to make K7 a great place to learn?
